 Getting The Right Prom Dress

Prom Dress

To see a wide variety prom dresses go to http://www.promdresstoday.com

Getting the right prom dress usually starts with shopping intelligently. To shop intelligently doesn't mean simply shopping for price. It has to do with being able to tell if you are buying a quality prom dress or gown both in the workmanship of your dress and in the richness of its fabric. When you shop, remember, that most expensive doesn't mean the best. The most expensive, it's probably because it's the most marketed--and that should never, ever be the reason why you buy a prom dress. So where do you start? Determine your body type first.

First and most important, choose a prom gown that suits the type of body you have. Forget about what you see in the magazines and what looks like a dream prom dress on the girl in the magazine, it might look like a nightmare on you.

Choosing the right prom gown, once you've selected a prom dress that suits your body type, is mostly a question of quality. You need to be able to tell quality from crap, because if you buy crap, you will look like crap. So here are some of the things you should look for:

How is the dress made? Are the seams all wobbly? Are the sleeves finished right? Are the hems finished right? Does the dress have lining?  Is the neck off- center?  Sometimes, when manufacturers make dresses, they're not as careful as they could be, and the result is a poor fitting product that makes you look horrible.

Different fabrics hug the skin differently and not all colors are complimentary to your eyes, complexion, and hair. The better fabrics drape better. They also feel better. When it comes to fabric, you can usually tell quality by touching it.   Many manufacturers tell you about their dresses and their fabrics on their websites. Make a good study of color matching and fabrics against your skin so that your dress enhances your looks. Your favorite color might not be the one that is best for your prom dress so choose wisely.

Couture, it means "cut." And in the fashion world, it refers to "the cut" of the prom dress.  Actually, is a combination of many things including the quality of the manufacturing process, the quality of the fabrics, and above all, an original design that transforms the wearer's body into a work of art.

How to Have Your Prom Dress Altered

It is common for girls to start preparing for prom night several months in advance because a dress needs to represent her appropriately and completely. In the best case scenario, you won't need alterations. However, if you do, there are basically two ways: you can have the boutique where you bought it do the alterations, or you can have a private seamstress do the alterations.  It might help to ask them first if they've ever done prom dresses, and if so, would they mind showing you some samples. Also, ask about guarantees: what happens if they ruin the dress? who pays?

How to Choose a Prom Dress Size

You might think this is self-evident, but so many girls get it wrong so many times, that it's worth mentioning. So here goes. Manufacturers' size charts vary: there is no standard among them. This means that size 4, or size 6, etc., is not the same from one manufacturer to the next. You can be much more relaxed and rational if you shop early. Also make certain that your measurements are fresh. Get yourself properly measured for bust, waist, and hip before going shopping to make sure that the perfect looking dress also has a perfect and comfortable fit. To avoid the sizing problem, always look at a manufacturer's size charts. These list the Bust, Waist, and Hip dimensions for each size. So when you want to find out what size you really are according to that manufacturer, always start by taking your bust, waist, and hip measurements. Never buy dresses hoping that you will lose weight in another two weeks or something like that.  It's always best to buy the size that corresponds to the largest of your bust, waist, or hip dimensions. In other words, if you're a size 36 bust and a size 26 waist, and the size chart says size 36 bust equals size 8, but size 26 waist equals size 6, then get size 8. You can always have the waist taken in afterward.

The key to buying your 2008 prom dress is not to delay the purchase. There are thousands of other girls looking for a prom dress and you do not wish to have the leftovers. Also alterations take time.

The Internet has made the whole process a lot easier it provides the ultimate combination of choice and price range, whether you are looking for the latest design from a popular designer or something more traditional at a reasonable cost.

You can be much more relaxed and rational if you shop early. Always think ahead and remember to purchase matching accessories. Use your imagination to picture yourself with prom dress and prom accessories.

Happy shopping!
