 Prom 2008

Prom Themes & Prom Decorations

Before decorations, come up with a prom theme.

Prom starts at the beginning of the year by having the class do a fundraisers to raise money throughout the year to pay for our prom decorations, and whatever is needed for the dinner and dance. It's a all night event starting at 7pm with a dinner, music, karaoke, play auction, play gambling, all you can eat buffets etc. Juniors and Seniors are allowed to attend Prom, but the Juniors organize and decorate for it. The Juniors choose a theme and decorate the gym and the hallways to the gym using the theme. It's always very beautiful. To someone who didn't know better, they wouldn't even realize it was a gym. The Juniors decorate the gym the whole week leading up to Prom. They bring beauty to every inch of the event room with sensational selection of decorations. They add elegance with gorgeous gossamer and lights and create decorations with corrugated paper, poly vinyl, balloons, murals, and flat paper, creating an amazing setting for the Prom with dazzling columns, photo settings, and other large decorating items.

The most important part of planning your Prom is choosing a prom them and then purchasing or making the prom decorations for the prom theme. With more than 100 theme kits and tons of decorations on the internet, you have everything you need to make your Prom look spectacular. Whether your theme is a starry night, a fairytale, Hollywood glamour, or Mardi Gras fun, you can transform your room in no time. But how do you pull it all together to make your Prom theme an unforgettable wonderland? You start by planning a star-studded Hollywood event, marvelous Mardi Gras ball, a tropical Luau or gorgeous Garden party or what ever your prom theme might be. The first step should be deciding on a fun theme. From there originates every other idea. And if budget's a big deal, then you have to be even more creative in your planning.

Here is an idea to get your creative juices flowing and get you on your way to start thinking about different prom themes and decoration alternatives.

Prom Theme How To

The perfect entrance begins with an archway that will transport guests to their evening in the jungle or tropical paradise. Place an Amazon Arch With Butterflies a few feet from the main entrance or place an Island Hut a few feet from the main entrance. Hang some Tropical Bamboo Curtain over the doorway. The Guests will feel the warm breeze in the air the moment they walk through it.

Next, you need to create an inviting pathway that will lead guests inside! Start by covering your floor with some Seamless earth color Paper, and then add a path with our Cobblestone Flat paper or Lampac Matting over the earth color paper. Run Green Gossamer or Tissue Grass down the edges of the path for an extra punch.

Make your walls look like a tropical paradise by hanging some Palm Tree Scene Setters. Attach some Black and Green Die-Cut Vines to the wall to create a more tropical island or forest atmosphere.

Create a stunning ceiling in your room with Star Blue Gossamer paper and Twinkle Lights. Drape gossamer in a side-to-side style, attaching strands of lights between the lengths of gossamer. Create ropes by hanging pieces of Dark Green Vinyl Festooning down from the ceiling and add some Green Die-Cut Vines for a rain forest effect.

Create an "entrance" to your dance floor with a Polynesian Hut. Place the hut in-between the entrance pathway and the dance floor. Next, section off your dance floor perimeter by placing our Tropical Palms at each corner. Add the Polynesian Torches to the dance floor, one on each side of the stage, for extra effect. Create water falling down the waterfalls with Water Gossamer around the dance floor edges or use the waterfall included in the Enchanted Amazon Kit from stomps.

Cover tables with our White Plastic Table Covers and add Tropical Gossamer over the table covers. Next, add our Real Coconut Cups at each place setting. Scatter each table with a sprinkling of our Palm Tree Confetti. Use Gold Plastic Tableware and Gold Napkins with green imprints. Next, alternate Pacific Sunrise Centerpieces and Tropical Flowers Centerpieces on every other table. For a unique napkin holder, use our Raffia Curling Ribbon by tying a small piece around each napkin. Add your tropical-imprinted favors, such as the Imprinted Coconuts or Mini Hurricane Candles, for a decorative touch. Don't forget to decorate the chairs for a decorative touch. Cover each chair with Gold Deeptone Gossamer and accent them with colorful Leis.

Create an authentic island photo setting in one of the corners of the room. Start by covering the wall with Buff Seamless Paper. Then use one Tropical Twilight Palm Tree and two Tiki Masks one as your photo backdrop. You can swag some Gold Gossamer to your setting for more depth. Add Tissue Grass to the floor for a finishing touch.

Dress up the stage area up by using our Waterfalls behind the stage or use our Sea at Sunset Photo Mural to hang behind the stage and our Tiki Masks and Polynesian Torches on the stage and then place Squiggle Grass around the perimeter of the stage area.

Set up the Polynesian Sunset Waterfall on one side of your dance floor and add a couple of Tropical Twilight Palms. Fluff Water Gossamer under the Island Bridge and along the side of your event room to create an island stream. Add some Squiggle Grass Blades below the trees to add to the dense rainforest look and to help fill in the corners of the room. Use a Tropical Twilight Hut to serve beverages and snacks!

Many times a Sign-in Registration table is set up outside the actual Prom room and is used to gather tickets, pass out name tags, and sometimes the Prom favors are given away here. Don't forget to dress up the area with a few accents to make this area just as enchanted as the dance floor itself. For decorations the main reason you are reading this, the standard banners and streamers are a must. Hang a themed Personalized Banner over the table welcoming the Prom goers to the night of their lives. Be sure to cover the table with Table Covering and Table Skirting. Attach an Enchanted Forest Butterfly to the corner of your table and if your budget allows add a grouping of three Palm Trees next to the table.

Finally, pick 10 sophomores to serve and put on skits at the banquet. Since it's basically for the Seniors, they don't find out the theme until they buy their tickets, or if the Junior Class chooses to, they can keep it secret until the night of the Prom. Then, on Prom night, the fans composed of friends, family and anyone interested came by to watch the graduates march into the hotel, to look at the decorations and of course, the dresses.

More Prom Themes and Prom Decorations Ideas

Here are some more ideas, in case this wasn't enough. There are so many to choose from:

Mardi Gras
A great American custom! Sprinkle green, gold and purple beads on the tables, position a colorful parade float for photo opportunities and have lots of masks hanging on walls. In keeping with the spirit of Mardi Gras, Cajun music would totally set off the atmosphere.

Grease
The best low budget idea for prom decorations yet! Somewhere in the back of the gym or auditorium there must be some props that were used a generation or two ago, just begging to see the light of day again! Music's easy and favors are cheap … try packs of bubble gum or bottles of bubbles with wands for blowing through. Stage a romantic "Summer Lovin'" contest for budding Sandy's and Danny's to show their stuff. As prizes, provide gifts of Grease soundtracks or DVD's.

The Swingin' 70's
Everything psychedelic goes, including the obligatory disco ball and some lava lamps! For flowers, think carnations in vases on macramé doyleys as centerpieces! Sprinkle multicolored confetti and glitter on the tables, and hang posters of 70's music and movie stars and plenty of balloons and streamers around the room. Try tie-dying cheesecloth for drapes or tablecloths. A Saturday Night Fever dance-off would be huge! The 70's allows so many cool ideas that it's a prom decoration bonanza.

Viva Las Vegas
Instead of tickets, you sell casino chips for entry into the prom. Set up a couple of fake gambling tables and have an Elvis impersonation contest! It'd be even more fun if you could convince a teacher to dress up as the man himself.

Oscars Night
Obviously you'll need a red carpet! Also a huge cut-out of the Oscars trophy in gold would be cool. A fantastic idea for favors is disposable cameras, or scaled-down personalized Oscars. Name every table after an Academy Award winner from the current year. As for lighting, see if you can organize searchlights to flash around the room.

Bond. James Bond.
A black and white scheme plus a dash of red (perhaps a single red rose or red candles at each table) will create intrigue and fun. Consider naming tables after James Bond movies, instead of numbering them. Place red gels over the spotlights and shine them on some spy silhouettes. For favors, provide dark sunglasses.

Let your imagination run free! Perhaps it's best of course, to let some ideas vaporize (a "Sex And The City" theme may not go down so well!) The most important thing is that everyone has fun, and with some clever planning, your well thought out prom decorations could be the making of the entire event.
